Created by popular artist Jamie Tyndall alongside Red Giant Entertainment CEO and writer, Benny R. Powell, WHITE WIDOW is set in the “Absolute Comics Universe” and follows the adventures of Gabrielle Garcia, a typical American girl who suddenly finds herself transformed into the superpowered White Widow after her scientist father is murdered.
The second issue of the popular series has already surpassed the massive sales in pre-orders achieved by its first issue, and its Kickstarter Campaign was successfully funded within the first two hours as well at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/980021934/white-widow-naked-truth
Issue #2.5 will be a self-contained story that takes place sequentially between the second issue (due in stores end of April) and the third issue (due in stores end of May to early June).
“White Widow has been a big hit for our store,” explains Acme owner, Joshua Dinkins, “and this year May 4th is a rare convergence of both Free Comic Book Day and the Star Wars Day event. We wanted to do something unique and amazing to set our store apart during this celebration. When I approached the creators of Absolute about putting together a free comic for our store featuring their character, they agreed.”
First celebrated in 2002 after being proposed by comic retailer Joe Field and organized by Diamond Comic Distributors, Free Comic Book Day is an annual event where participating comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their shops. The event is held the first Saturday in May and is the perfect opportunity to introduce friends and family to the many worlds of wonder available at local comic book shops.
Star Wars Day, May 4, celebrates George Lucas' Star Wars. It is observed by fans of the media franchise. Observance of the commemorative day spread quickly through media and grassroots celebrations. The date was chosen for the pun on the catchphrase "May the Force be with you" as "May the Fourth be with you". Even though the holiday was not created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world have chosen to celebrate the holiday. It has since been embraced by Lucasfilm as an annual celebration of Star Wars.
“While this book is in no way affiliated with either event or organization,” explained Benny Powell, Publisher of Absolute Comics as well as Co-Creator and Writer for White Widow, “We felt the opportunity to do something unique was too good to pass up. One of the things that have set us apart from the beginning was our attempts to innovate. To our knowledge, no independent comic store has taken it upon themselves to commission an exclusive issue to give away for free in their stores before. That makes this a landmark milestone and one we are proud to participate.”
White Widow #2.5 will be a 20-page comic book and feature a brand new story as well as bonus material not in other books. It will also feature an exclusive holographic foil cover with artwork by series co-creator and superstar artist, Jamie Tyndall.
The first issue of White Widow sold out at the retailer level in January 2019 and instantly went back to second print. The second print featured extra pages of content, an unprecedented move, and sold even more copies than the first printing.
The second issue Kickstarter – White Widow: Naked Truth – is also currently going on and with less than a week left has continued the track record of success surrounding the inaugural title to the Absolute Comics Group line. Additionally, they will have specials and other features such as 50% off Star Wars select Star Wars merchandise for the Star Wars Day event. Patrons are encouraged to arrive early, however, as supplies are limited.
