In a landmark move to recognize the role of continuous learning in nation-building and to honor the contributions of L&D professionals across industries, Dr. Anand Wadadekar, a seasoned education and learning leader, and Ms. Roopa Pal, AVP – Learning & Development at Black Box, have co-founded the National Learning and Development Day, to be celebrated annually on 24th June.
This initiative is the first of its kind in the world, designed as a movement rather than a mere event, aiming to promote a culture of lifelong learning, upskilling, and capability development. The inaugural theme for 2025 — "Human-Centric Growth in the Age of AI" — highlights the need for balanced, inclusive learning in an increasingly technology-driven world.
“We felt the time was right to formally acknowledge the unsung heroes of talent transformation — our L&D professionals — and to unite the community under one platform of recognition and renewal,” said Dr. Wadadekar.
The 2025 launch included a keynote address and wide participation from HR and L&D leaders across India
The movement also includes annual digital badges and recognitions like L&D Champion, L&D Innovator, and National L&D Icon to spotlight excellence in the field.
The founders are seeking wider industry endorsements and participation from government, corporates, professional bodies like (SHRM, FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM, MCCIA) to further institutionalize this movement as part of a Skilled India and Viksit Bharat vision.
