Environment Friendly Homes

With every passing day, people are becoming more concerned about the environment. This is leading to implementation of environment friendly measures by them. What can be more better than implementing these eco-friendly ideas while building a home?

In this blog, we are going to share with you 10 of the most interesting green and sustainable homes, from tree houses to eco domes.

1. Passivhaus Tree House

To get started, we are witnessing a building in England known as the passivhaus tree house. This home was designed to have minimal impact on the surrounding trees and aim to preserve the natural habitat of the site.  It has been certified by the passivhaus standard, which means it is incredibly energy efficient, due to its air tightness and insulation.

2. Prefabricated House

This house can be put together in just three days. It was made using a process known as prefabrication that involves creating the entire home off-site in a factory. This minimizes construction and landfill transportation, ultimately reducing the building's carbon footprint. This house was made in three separate chunks with all fixtures and fittings already installed at the factory.

3. Ho4 Shipping Container House

This eco come also follows the theme of low waste emission by using old containers. These types of buildings can be delivered to almost anywhere as their size heavily helps in transportation. There are nearly 20 million containers which are moving on our land. Shipping container houses are under scrutiny as they are often made from new containers, defeating the purpose of using them from an ecological point of view.

4. Earthship

Now this next building claims to be the most eco friendly design in this list. It is called Earthship and is created based on the idea that there are six human needs that can be addressed through sustainable building design. They are as follows: -

  • Renewable energy from solar and wind.
  • Garbage management from reuse and recycling.
  • Creating shelter with natural recycling materials.
  • Harvesting rainwater.
  • Growing your own food.
  • Treating the sewage by feeding the wastewater to the plants.

5. Earth Covered Home

It is covered with fantastic insulation and thermal properties and that is why this next house is on a list as it is almost completely covered by Earth. It is located in central Texas where the weather is extremely hot during the day. the layer of the Earth above the house acts as a barrier against heat that dramatically reduces the need for indoor air conditioning.

6. Rotating House

This next house can rotate in all directions giving the owner panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The house follows the path of the sun across the sky and efficiently generates a substantial amount of power. The house also gets additional power from a heat pump at the bottom.

7. Wood House

This home tends to mix well with its neighbourhood. The home’s pitched roof is one of a kind. The roof garden allows the house owner to grow some food. This building is also made entirely by Ward, which is one of the most sustainable materials available.

8. Eco Dome

These eco-friendly houses are designed to optimize the amount of interior space while having a small overall footprint. They are made from sustainable and recycled cardboard and come with solar panels and green walls. It takes just one day to build and can be placed anywhere as they are delivered like a furniture.

9. Rammed Earth Home

It is an ancient building technique. This is an example of vernacular architecture, which means that it is a building that uses local materials and knowledge. This is undoubtedly the most sustainable way to design, as it removes huge carbon emissions from transportation.

10. Bamboo House

Finally, bamboo is said to be one of the most sustainable building materials in the world because of how quick it can grow. Bu the time Bamboo houses are built, all the bamboo chopped down for construction of the house had already regrown. Bamboo only takes four years to reach its harvesting stage whereas other forms of timber require at least 30 years of maturity.

Eco friendly green homes are subject to work properly in certain climates. For example, the bamboo House cannot work in a cold place like England and this is the reason why there is no standalone design for eco homes. They are becoming increasingly popular as people are becoming more aware about their environmental impact. We wish to see more eco homes in the coming years ahead.
