Born and raised in Ottumwa, Iowa, Dr. Milder attended Ottumwa High School, where he was actively involved in cross country, theatre, and show choir. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Northern Iowa, graduating Magna Cum Laude with minors in Biology and the Study of Religion. He went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry Degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry in 2023, graduating with honors and earning a Graduate Certificate in Business Management.
Following graduation, Dr. Milder practiced at Vision Care Center in Peoria, Illinois, from 2023 to 2025, gaining extensive clinical experience in both private and VA-affiliated settings. He has completed hundreds of comprehensive eye examinations and developed expertise in managing a wide range of ocular conditions across diverse patient populations.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Milder has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to advancing the profession. He served as President of the Illinois Valley Optometric Society from 2024 to 2025, organizing continuing education programs and fostering collaboration among colleagues. At Indiana University School of Optometry, he mentored and tutored students from the classes of 2024, 2025, and 2026, guiding them through complex clinical concepts and supporting their academic growth. His volunteer efforts include participation in Special Olympics vision screenings, local wellness fairs, and community outreach initiatives.
Recognized for academic excellence, Dr. Milder has received numerous honors, including the Dean’s Academic Scholarship at Indiana University and Distinguished Scholar and Dean’s Awards at the University of Northern Iowa.
