Miami Springs, Florida Jun 24, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - YZA Continues the Conversation: "Sleeping Giant Vol. 2" Is More Than a Mixtape https://livemixtapes.com/mixtape/yza-sleeping-giant-2 https://www.thisisyza.com/. Fresh Off Another Round of Press, YZA Opens Up About Sacrifice, Growth, and the Road Ahead
With Sleeping Giant Vol. 2 set to drop July 1st on Livemixtapes and hosted by World Famous DJ Fresh, the official DJ for Chris Brown, YZA has been making the media rounds discussing what many believe could be a defining project in his career.
In this latest interview, the Louisville native talks about staying focused, balancing work and music, and why he's treating his upcoming birthday like another workday.
Q: You've been talking about Sleeping Giant Vol. 2 a lot lately. As release day gets closer, has your mindset changed?
YZA: Not really. If anything, I'm more focused now than ever. The excitement is there, but I've learned that excitement doesn't replace work. Every day, I'm still promoting, recording, planning, and trying to figure out the next move. The release is important, but what happens after the release is just as important.
Q: You've described this project as a turning point. Why?
YZA: Because I finally feel like people are getting the complete picture of who I am. Not just the singer. Not just the songwriter. The person. The worker. The dreamer. The guy who's clocking in every day and then going home to chase a completely different life.
A lot of people have talent. The difference is who's willing to keep going when nobody's paying attention.
Q: Does having DJ Fresh attached to the project make it feel bigger?
YZA: Absolutely. DJ Fresh is respected across the industry. When someone of his stature believes in what you're doing, it means something. He's worked alongside greatness for years. To have him hosting this project is definitely a blessing and a major moment for me.
Q: You've mentioned before that you still work a regular job. Has that reality influenced the music?
YZA: Every song on this project is influenced by real life. Working a 9-to-5 teaches you discipline. It teaches you patience. It teaches you how to keep pushing when you're tired.
There are days when I leave work exhausted, but I still have songs to write, records to finish, and goals to chase. That's the reality of being an independent artist.
Q: Do you ever get discouraged balancing both worlds?
YZA: Of course. Anybody who says they don't is probably not being honest. There are moments where you wonder when your opportunity is coming.
But then I remember why I started. Music has always been my passion. It's always been the thing that makes me feel alive. So even on the difficult days, I keep going.
Q: You've got a birthday coming up shortly after the mixtape drops. Are friends and family pressuring you to celebrate?
YZA: (Laughs) Yeah, definitely.
Everybody keeps asking what I'm doing, and honestly my answer is the same every time—I'm working.
The project comes first right now. My birthday is a blessing, but this release is something I've invested a lot into. The celebration can wait. This year I want results more than I want a party.
Q: That's a pretty serious answer. What makes you so locked in?
YZA: Because I know what's possible.
I've seen artists go from working regular jobs to living off their music. I know it can happen. The key is staying prepared when the opportunity shows up.
I tell people all the time: I work my 9-to-5 to take care of my responsibilities, but music is my passion. Hopefully one day soon my passion will take care of me.
That's the goal.
Q: What do you want people to hear when they listen to Sleeping Giant Vol. 2?
YZA: Hunger.
I want them to hear somebody who's still chasing it. Somebody who's still working for it. Somebody who hasn't forgotten where he came from.
You'll hear records about love, relationships, ambition, and life experiences, but underneath all of that is one message: Don't quit.
Q: Looking ahead, what does success look like for YZA?
YZA: Growth.
More listeners. More fans. More stages. More opportunities.
I don't need everything overnight. I just want to keep building. As long as I'm moving forward, I'm winning.
Q: Last question. Why should someone check out Sleeping Giant Vol. 2 on July 1st?
YZA: Because it's real.
No gimmicks. No pretending. Just real music from somebody who's lived what he's talking about.
If you've ever worked for a dream while handling responsibilities, if you've ever felt overlooked, if you've ever believed your moment was still coming—this project is for you.
The giant has been sleeping long enough.
July 1st, we're waking everybody up.
