Southwark, London Jun 19, 2018 (Issuewire.com) - The Voice newspaper has produced a special souvenir edition of its publication to mark the 70th anniversary of the Empire Windrush’s arrival and celebrate the contributions people from the Caribbean have made to the UK.
The souvenir edition will be published on Thursday June 21, the day before the 70th anniversary of Empire Windrush's arrival at Tilbury Docks, and will be on the shelves for one week only.
The publication will feature exclusive testimonies from Britain's Caribbean community, including 90-year-old Windrush passenger John Richards.
Eminent black Britons of Caribbean heritage including Baroness Floella Benjamin, Bishop Joe Aldred and Lord Herman Ouseley also feature in the keepsake edition.
The special issue will chart the impact and the achievements that black Caribbeans have made to Britain across various sectors including the church, sport, entertainment, politics and healthcare. It also features exclusive book extracts and interviews, and archival photography.
The black Caribbean community's impact on British society, the Windrush legacy and some of the most significant achievements of the Windrush Generation will be explored throughout the issue, which will be enclosed within a wrap cover.
The souvenir edition will replace the usual edition of The Voice newspaper for one week only.
It will be available to purchase for £1 from a wide selection of supermarkets and newsagents. Copies will also be on sale at a number of Jamaica National Bank branches around the UK and will be available to view on the www.voice-online.co.uk.
George Ruddock, managing editor of The Voice, said: “The Voice newspaper is proud to pay its own tribute to the pioneers from the Caribbean who arrived on the Empire Windrush in June 22, 1948 by producing this souvenir edition in their honour and to the Windrush Generation that followed. Readers of The Voice will be pleased with the extensive coverage enclosed and will be cherishing this keepsake copy in years to come.”
