When we are making a film we are completely out of our minds

An interview with the brilliant-minded story teller Qmars Mootab

Los Angeles, California Jan 18, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  -    Qmars Mootab is an international producer, filmmaker, and cinematographer well known for his single-shot film: "The Silent Pasture of Sparrows". The film was a real challenge of cinematography. He also made other movies such as Vakhtangov (2017) (a Documentary about Vakhtangov). He has the Timeless (2019) underway. Timeless is passing post-production and will be released soon. Let’s have a small talk to know him better.

- You don’t let cells onset is it right?

No; (laughs), Not at all. Not only on set but also during a whole shooting day. I think –especially for actors and actresses- when we are making a film we are completely out of our minds, something like madness is mandatory to play the role but phones and any kind of relation to our real personality is disturbing and simultaneously mood killer.

- Cleverly twisted storylines is the base of your films. How do you manage it with technical specifications, let’s say the single-shot technique?

Look, technical and storyline are not to separate issues. They are both serving the outcome. I mean if the storyline is twisted and it has tights to solve technical specifications are helping it in order to sometimes make it more twisted or sometimes to give some hints.

- We're normally not able to find good ideas. How do you find such a brilliant idea?

Inspiration and ideas come from different sources. It’s not like you to sit on your bench and think about something new and boom there it is. NO. It needs full-time attention. To everything. To everyone. Being a filmmaker is a 7/24 job. Sometimes an idea comes in a form of regret for people's life sometimes it comes in a painting gallery.

- You are also a painter, does it help?

Of course. Painting is the basic of framing and also watercolor painting is really inspiring because it fifty percent you as the painter and fifty percent watercolor itself which choose how it wants to perform. Really inspiring.

- The Silent Pasture of Sparrows was a big step for you—a single-shot film. What inspired you to do it?

Well, to be honest at first it was just an idea. We did it together with my team I am really thankful to all my cast and crew who came with me on such a hard road. Special thanks to my assistant “Saeb” and others. Sometimes we shoot the film until 17;00 min and CUT. Getting back to normal and start it over again was a real challenge.

- Last word?

Thank you so much for having me here and that was a great honor to talk to you. I would like to say to anybody out there with a dream, WE ARE DREAMERS too.
