Delhi, India Sep 26, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - The WFP Trust of India and EXL have come together to enhance digital and financial literacy among selected women self-help groups in Delhi to strengthen their livelihoods and food security.
A partnership agreement was signed last month on this between WFP Trust for India, a nationally registered public charitable entity, incubated by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), and EXL India, part of EXL group, which is a leading player in the data analytics and digital operations and solutions space.
“This partnership represents the synergy that is needed to create long-term solutions to end food insecurity through an empowerment approach for a sustainable shift towards the common goal of reducing and eradicating hunger and malnutrition in India,” Ms. Rita Sarin, Chairperson of the Trust said.
“Focus on gender and empowerment is crucial when it comes to addressing the challenges of nutrition and food security. Women and girls face massive nutritional disadvantages economically and socially as is indicated by the country’s nutritional and health indicators.
Access to awareness, skills, and an enabling environment will allow women to leverage the digital financial literacy to create sustainable livelihoods contributing to their food security,” Mr. Bishow Parajuli, Representative and Country Director for WFP in India said.
“We are excited to partner with the WFP Trust for India for digital empowerment of urban women’s self-help groups. WFP, being one of the UN organizations and also a Nobel prize winner, brings with it an impeccable reputation and unparalleled expertise. EXL will also bring in its expertise in digital and financial literacy and overall, this is expected to create employee engagement with the community. The project will focus on creating financial inclusion by educating women about the banking system and other financial schemes,” remarked Satyajit Gupta, Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, and Head of Legal & CSR.
The project seeks to build the digital and financial literacy of 600 women across 60 women’s self-help groups in the National Capital Region of Delhi to enable them to make full use of the opportunities offered by the Government through the SHG Bank linkage scheme to set up their small businesses together and be able to earn income and make profits.
