Even as a little girl, Shaw has always had an affinity for art and poetry, which only grew over time. Her style renders her subjects with layers of ink, watercolor, and pencil on rag paper. As for her poetry, it is an amalgam of various religious and spiritual texts. Shaw is inspired by the wisdom of several Buddhist monks, Hindu scriptures and of Sanskrit chants and prayers.

Dorothy Bury Shaw is a visual artist born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, she worked as an art teacher and a part time editorial illustrator. Dorothy’s works can be seen in several newspapers and magazines. She has won many awards for her artwork and participated in prestigious art exhibits. Her most recent projects have been inspired by folklore and tribal legends. She is grateful each and every day for her beautifully imperfect life and above all, for the One who dwells within.
