Atlanta, Georgia Feb 1, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Independent film company, Val & Vic Productions has announced the launch of its Seed&Spark crowdfunding campaign for Monte Cristo, a historical short film set during the Korean War.
The project explores the story of Bill Harper, a young Black Navy Steward who confronts questions of freedom and belonging while serving a country still struggling with segregation.
Inspired by the discovery of his grandfather’s military documents—including the racial classification “Negroid”—writer and director Devin McKay developed the film to shed light on the paradoxes faced by Black servicemen in the 1950s. “With Monte Cristo, we hope to honor those who served in silence and inspire audiences to reflect on freedom, purpose, and what it truly means to live,” McKay shares.
The campaign seeks to raise a minimum of $35,000 to cover three days of production and essential travel expenses. A target goal of $40,000 would expand resources to include pre-production and post-production costs, crew wages. A stretch goal of $45,000 would support festival submissions, travel, lodging, and promotional outreach.
Val & Vic Productions, based in Georgia, is committed to amplifying underrepresented voices through bold and heartfelt storytelling. Previous projects by the company have highlighted personal and cultural narratives that connect communities through film.
The crowdfunding campaign offers supporters tiered incentives ranging from behind-the-scenes access and exclusive merchandise to producer credits and invitations to private screenings.
The campaign is now live on Seed&Spark. To learn more or contribute, visit:
