U.S and China Draw in Olympic Medals, Both Get 40 Gold Medals Each

The Olympic Games Paris 2024 has been concluded and the U.S. and China each won 40 Gold medals, finishing in a draw as the U.S. came through at the last moment.

Paris, France Aug 14, 2024 (Issuewire.com)  - The Olympic Games Paris 2024 are done and we have the most Gold medals for a country finally. However, for the first time in the Summer Games Olympic History, two giants, the U.S. and China are tied with 40 gold medals each on their sides. The Americans pulled into a tie on Sunday with securing a victory in the last event, women’s basketball. The U.S. equaled China with its astonishing and tense 67-66 victory over France in a mind-blowing close game for the women’s hoops gold.

Sunday began with China entering another day of the games with a 39-38 edge over the U.S. The Americans appeared to have a slight advantage over their opponent as the country was going for its eighth consecutive women's basketball gold and second straight women's volleyball title. Then a swirl of results unfolded, shaping the final standings in the midafternoon. Li Wenwen from China won gold in women's heavyweight weightlifting. This would have been the end for the American hopes to capture overall gold. The American dreams were dimmed further Kennedy Blades, the Chicago native lost to 76-kg rival Yuka Kagami of Japan, after making a surprising run to the gold medal wrestling match.

Then at the Volleyball games, Italy gave the U.S. a stunning blow with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-17, snatching the victory. The decorated cyclist Jennifer Valente from San Diego defended her gold in the women's omnium and bailed out the United States of America. This was what set up the heavily favored U.S. women to secure the winning of their consecutive eighth gold. "I wasn't aware until someone told me after the game, but I'm happy that we won for ourselves and USA basketball, but also for the entire Team USA delegation so we can be tied," said WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart after the game of gold medals.

U.S. coach Cheryl Reeve was seen smiling as she said that she knew what was waiting for France but she did not tell the players that. "I saw the medal count beforehand, I did," she said, smiling. "That's what we need, more pressure." The last time when the U.S. did not win the most gold medals at the Summer Olympic Games was in Beijing in 2008. The hosts topped the Americans in the number of gold medals, by 48-36.  Although there has never been a draw in the Summer Olympics, making this year the first-ever, there certainly have been three draws in the Winter Olympics. The most recent draw was between Norway and Germany, where both countries won 14 golds in PyeongChang 2018.
