District of Columbia, United States Apr 23, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - A consortium of international private and public sector partners lead by international idea factory Uplifting Ventures and propelled by world-leading open innovation platform Agorize announce a massive inaugural ten-year initiative, the ‘Global Citizens Innovative Solutions SDGs Challenge’, an annual 100-day rolling global competition.
Part ideation exercise, part solutions hackathon, part start-up competition, the Challenge seeks to engage citizens of any nationality, ethnicity, age, or gender and encourages diverse teams to commit and “resolve to solve” any one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Teams (families, students, friends, co-workers, neighbors, or strangers who’ll become new friends) are encouraged to brainstorm, devise and present their innovative solutions by video -all virtually- during a time frame of their choosing between now and July 30.
"By creating original, impactful, wide-scale and globally inclusive strategic activities, we plan to move the needle toward greater good by engaging the masses in the solutions process while facilitating understanding into the sustainability mandates of the United Nations," says Lisa La Bonte, Principal of Uplifting Ventures and program creator/ producer.
Submissions evaluation by ‘continental’ judging panels will take place in August and multiple winning teams across each SDG will be awarded and highlighted at upcoming SDG festivals, summits, and events in association with United Nations SDGs. Solutions that are scalable and have commercial viability will be eligible for selection by partner incubators and accelerators. Certificates of participation will be awarded to all global entrants who submit their solution proposals. Other special perks, prizes, and activities will be announced.
Muses (idea and motivational cheerleaders), Mentors (subject matter experts), and Minders (‘sitters’ to keep teams on track) will be available to assist and augment participating teams.
“We are honored to power this initiative on our platform and provide a springboard to tens of thousands of change-makers all over the world. We’ve run over 2,000 open innovation challenges over the past decade and the Global Citizens Innovative Solutions SDGs Challenge definitely stands out,” said Aurelie Wen, CEO of Asia Pacific at Agorize.
