UNDER-THE-SEA INTAKES PRESENTED AT NO-DIG 2018

Save money, save time, accelerate permitting, lessen pre-treatment complexity

Sacramento, California Mar 21, 2018 (Issuewire.com)  - Dr. Anthony T. Jones of Intake Works LLC (Sacramento, CA) will introduce the concept of a low impact approach to drawing clear seawater into desalination plants at the upcoming NASTT’s No-Dig Show, the largest trenchless technology conference in North America in Palm Spring, March 27. 2018.  This technique will save 2-years in permitting and at least $2 million in permitting studies and expenses.

“Leave the fish in the sea, there is no reason to raze the marine environment while obtaining safe, secure, sustainable water supply from ocean desalination.” Dr. Anthony T. Jones

The NASTT’s No-Dig Show is the must-attend conference for underground infrastructure professionals where environmentally friendly trenchless solutions and cost-saving opportunities for municipalities and utilities are presented.  On Tuesday morning, in Technical Session 2, at 9 a.m., Dr. Jones will discuss ‘Application of HDD for subsea installation of micro-porous intake pipeline for ocean desalination’.

The novel subsurface microporous intake will be installed in Southern California with a yearlong study of water quality comparing subsea intakes with direct screened intakes.  The anticipated superior water quality and lower life cycle costs for the subsurface intake should alter the best technical approach for California’s future desalination plants.

The technology is being developed in conjunction with Catalana de Perforacions (Barcelona, Spain), The HDD Co. (Cameron Park, CA), and Pall Filtersystems GmbH (Crailsheim, Germany).

Intake Works LLC is a group of oceanographers, marine geologists, marine ecologists, HDD drilling specialists and marine construction professionals engaged in developing under-the-sea intakes to deliver low-turbid clear ocean water for industrial processes such as desalination.
