Vancouver, British Columbia Aug 5, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Displayed throughout the five-day fair at Booth 5A.B14, the novel formed part of Explora Books’ international showcase of independent authors during the event’s 40th-anniversary edition. Centered on the enduring bond between two souls beyond physical life, Two Connected Souls explores love, loss, and the possibility that some relationships transcend death.
BIBF 2026 marked the fair’s 40th anniversary and brought together over 1,700 exhibitors from 82 countries and regions, with programming focused on artificial intelligence, digital publishing, and international rights. Within that broader conversation, Two Connected Souls offered a different perspective through its exploration of enduring family bonds, spiritual connection, and the emotional ties that persist across separation. Its themes of love, memory, and resilience reflected the diversity of stories presented throughout the fair while introducing international publishing audiences to Royer’s spiritually grounded work.
Set largely in New England, the novel follows Derrick Sullivan, a builder who has spent his life shaping ideas into something tangible, through a car accident that suspends his consciousness in a quiet, light-filled interim realm. Guided by a mysterious robed figure, Derrick comes to understand that his bond with his eight-year-old son, Ricky, extends beyond physical presence—a continuation of the same wordless connection he once shared with his own father, who died when Derrick was still young.
When a malevolent entity crosses into the physical world and threatens Ricky’s soul, Derrick is forced to test the limits of that bond from the other side. Caught between hospital reality and an otherworldly dimension, he watches as his wife, Susan, struggles to hold the family together in the world he can no longer fully reach. Through these parallel realities, the novel explores how love, sacrifice, and family endure even in the face of mortality.
The novel draws on Royer’s own life. He became a father for the first time at age forty-four, an experience he has described as fundamentally reshaping his understanding of responsibility. In 2010, his younger brother’s sudden terminal illness and subsequent passing gave those reflections new emotional weight. Not long afterward, a quiet moment watching his infant son through a baby monitor left Royer with an unexpected sense of comfort—an experience he has identified as the inspiration for the novel’s central idea: that genuine human connection does not simply end when one voice falls silent.
Two Connected Souls is available on Amazon and other major digital bookstores.
