Livermore, California Feb 27, 2019 (Issuewire.com) - Tri-Valley Composite Squadron, located in Livermore, CA, was announced as one of the recipients of the CAP Unit Grant awards funded by the Air Force Association.
To support CAP’s aerospace/STEM education programs, since 1996, the AFA has provided over $440,000 to CAP to help fund their aerospace/STEM education programs, inspiring interest in over 350,000 youth toward STEM subjects and careers. Currently, the AFA provides twenty $250 aerospace/STEM education grants for Civil Air Patrol Units nationwide two times a year.
Tri-Valley Composite Squadron was re-established in July 2018 and this is their first AFA Unit Grant award. This award will be used to support instruction in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Vehicles for cadets and senior members.
Tri-Valley Composite Squadron meets Wednesdays at 7:00 PM at Livermore Airport and its cadet members meet on Fridays at 6:00 PM at Byron Airport.
Civil Air Patrol, the longtime all-volunteer U.S. Air Force auxiliary, is the newest member of the Air Force’s Total Force. In this role, CAP operates a fleet of 560 aircraft, performs about 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 80 lives annually. CAP’s 61,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies.
