Tomato-obsessed Boy Headlines Debut Fiction

Mother takes inspiration from her children and her own childhood in writing a humorous tale

Pearl, Mississippi Feb 8, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - Mother and author, Maxie M. Mitchell, draws inspiration from her children in creating a humorous little tale called, Tomato Ears. Mitchell has four sons and one of them has a peculiar liking for tomatoes. The boy’s name is Nathan, who eats more tomatoes than anyone else in the Mitchell family. When he was in third grade, Mitchell had the idea of crafting a story loosely based on her son’s dietary obsession.

Tomato Ears is also based on the author’s own childhood. Mitchell shares that when she was a little girl, she loved to eat watermelons. Her dad would caution her not to eat the seeds because if she would, it would grow into a full-sized watermelon inside her belly and it would sprout out of her belly button. Mitchell did not dare touch the watermelon seeds. From this memory comes this story, all thanks to the author’s own father.

Mitchell shares that she always knew she wanted to write. But having held onto this story for the longest time and never writing it, she thought it would never see the light of day. The author admits that she has written lots of stories in her spare time but Tomato Ears is the first one she has published. She considers the book as proof that dreams do come true and wants her readers to pursue their dreams like she has so courageously done herself.
