Neu-Ulm, Bavaria Sep 26, 2018 (Issuewire.com) - A lot has happened since Pixabay saw the light of day at the end of 2010. An ever-growing, friendly community has turned this project into the greatest, high-quality source for free images and videos!
It's been almost eight incredible years since Pixabay was launched in November 2010! At the time, we were working on another web project and we were in desperate need of a legally safe source for free quality images - but there was none. Therefore, we decided to put together the best of our own photos and curate suitable CC0 images that were scattered in various places on the web. Et voilà, Pixabay was born.
We didn't realize it at first, but many people all around the world were having the same issue. And day by day, more of these people discovered Pixabay - and the project began to grow. Soon after the initial launch, we implemented public uploads, so everybody could contribute their own works. And so they did...
Today, we celebrate 1.5 million free images that have been generously contributed by this wonderful community of photographers and artists. Thank you all for your passion, your enthusiasm, your loyalty, and so much more!
With a total of 1.5 million free images, most of the photos (1.2 million) and several hundred thousands of illustrations, vector graphics and clip arts, Pixabay is the largest collection of truly free quality images out there. A while back, we added support for footage and there are currently almost nine thousand free videos available on Pixabay.
All this content has been contributed by over 100,000 different people from all over the world. And we're counting over 1,200 different camera models; most photos have been taken with Canon and Nikon devices, followed by Sony and Panasonic.
