Boston, Massachusetts Aug 23, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - The young, 26-year-old Powell is alleged to have been the target of the shooting that killed his three siblings, a cousin, a friend, and a nephew too. Yet he escaped safely without even a single scratch on his body but certainly on his soul. Thus, he was often termed as “lucky”, to escape death in just minute seconds. These marks on the soul gave him the best lessons of the life-defining the importance of each moment and time. As a result, he founded a charity named,” Gloves Up, Guns Down” with the aim to inspire kids to turn to the box full of light rather than resorting to violence.
Being filled with immense gratitude, Lamont Powell always found himself blessed with the best, except for the fact of losing his mother at a very young age of 3 years. Yet he still believes that she is his guardian angel and guiding him throughout. He further adds that he got immense courage and positivity to combat all odds from his grandfather whom he considers a living blessing to him. His grandfather is the reason he emerged as the prominent boxer in the country as he coached Powell in the ring ever since he was 8 years old. Thus, this gentle soul dedicates his achievement to his grandfather.
Inarguably, after the terrifying experiences of life, there were dramatic changes in the overall lifestyle of Powell. Instead of sparing his valuable time on the streets, he directed his focus towards professional boxing and charity programs. Powell added. “Boxing kept me off, of the streets and busy. This is a sport outside of school that everyone can get involved in.” Today, Lamont is a three-time silver Mittens Champion with an aggregate of 45-4 amateur records, a silver gloves champion for the three years in the row. Furthermore, he is a 5-0 (1 KO) as a professional with world title fight records at WBA, WBO, IBF, WBC with 0-0 records. Evidently, Powell shows a stiff jab and tremendous conditioning in the ring which makes him a champion today.
Besides, the professional achievements Powell has added additional appreciating feather to his cap. This feather is nothing other than his charity named “Gloves Up, Guns Down” for high–risk kids. His wonderful initiative is funded by Big Six Boxing Academy in Providence where he was born in 1994. He has made his grandfather the prominent part of this Non-profit organization by titling him as “Head Coach” along with a US Olympian boxer named Jason (Big Six). Thus, Powell, the blessed soul has always returned his gains and gratitude in the form of charitable services.
