It has long been a tradition in the world of British Guitar Bands to, admittedly at the risk of self indulgence, make a statement out of your Debut Single. In the context of Rivera, a few examples in particular spring to mind: 'In The City' by the Jam, 'Motown Junk' by Manic Street Preachers, 'I Can't Explain' by The Who, 'Supersonic' by Oasis and, when ignoring the Little Richard cover released earlier in the year, 'You Really Got Me' by The Kinks.

If there's one thing you notice about this list, however, it's that not a single song's release date even gets within 5 years of the turn of the 21st Century. It really is a plain observation that Rivera are a band disillusioned by the equal-parts-flaccid-and-tragic radio pop they hear all around them today. It isn't nostalgia, it is purely observational. At only 16, none of the members have never known anything different. They have never experienced a Rock band's glorious breakthrough, only what is still left of the remnants of their downfalls. And yet still, the four members look to the past for their excitement, and they can hardly be blamed.

This One's Gonna Be Different has in fact, for such a fast-paced and exciting song, been a long time in the making. The song's barebones, written by Roden in the early years of his teens, resurfaced a few years later whilst the band were searching for a new song to add and bring energy to their live set. Roden brought the music he had already created, along with a few lyrics, to Collins, and, as the established songwriting duo that over the past few years they have become, the pair finished the music to the song and introduced it to the other members of the band. The lyrics, also penned by Roden, ironically tell the story of the thrill of a young band doing their first ever gigs and the hope that their dreams will truly take off. This is undeniably a very honest song, inspired by the Punk and Mod movements of the past.

Rivera are highly dedicated to their goals, from writing 100s of songs to record at home with anything they can get their hands on to putting said songs onto CDs and handing them out while busking to anyone kind enough to even take one. The members believe that the industry is not suited for the rise of new guitar bands, or any music that the BBC does not see fit. When the comfort of familiarity is so depended upon, Rivera believes it is everyone's duty to escape it.
