The arrangements, shared between Juaco Cardona, Diego Gómez, and Celestino Sánchez himself, effortlessly navigate different styles within the Latin music universe. "Eres Una Flor," a composition by Cuban Nicolás Adrián, whets the appetite with a contagious salsa at a perfect tempo for dancing, showcasing the voice of Mexican Mauricio Avalos. "Abre Tu Corazón" features Mexican singer Perla Rodríguez, while "El Viaje" delves into the realm of Cuban timba, recorded mostly by musicians from the island and sung by Erik Delgado García. The album explores the bolero with "Así Eres," composed and sung by Venezuelan Yakke Luna, adorned by an elegant tenor saxophone solo by Oliver Santana. The title track, "Te Tengo Noticias," is a tremendous composition by Puerto Rican Juan Otero: old-school, authentic salsa, perfect for street dancing, with Erik Delgado García leading as the lead vocalist. The surprise of the repertoire comes with "Glassy Sky," a composition by the Japanese composer Yutaka Yamada for the manga series Tokyo Ghoul, transformed into a salsa tune by the arrangement of Diego Gómez and the vocals of Perla Rodríguez. "Geñito Con Su Bongo" is a lively piece composed by Juan Otero with Ponce-born sonero Oscar Cardona on vocals, featuring solos by Ecuadorian Vince Alvarado on bongos and Mexican Rodrigo Loya on guitar. The recording closes with "De México a Puerto Rico," composed and sung by Mauricio Avalos with an arrangement by Celestino Sánchez and Diego Gómez, a track that definitively seals the Pan-American spirit of the project, building a musical bridge between the two lands that nourish the heart of this orchestra. C-SAN II brought together musicians from Puerto Rico, Cuba, the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Peru for this production, making the album a truly global collaboration.
Celestino Sánchez, a bassist, composer, arranger, and musical director based in Philadelphia, has been an active presence in the city's salsa and Latin jazz scene since 1979, playing with groups such as Tiempo y Sonido, Edgardo Cintrón, Orquesta La Paz, Sonido Internacional, and Orquesta del Barrio, among others. In 2018, he founded C-SAN II, an ensemble that records, mixes, and edits from his own home studio, and which has become a platform for bringing together talent from diverse backgrounds. His discography as a bandleader began with Jazz-Salsa (2020), a debut that combined five salsa tracks with three Latin jazz instrumentals, featuring collaborators such as Jimmy Bosch, Oliver Santana, and Manuel "Maneco" Ruiz. This was followed by Combinación Mundial Vol. 1 (2021), which expanded the project's sonic and geographical reach, and Combinación Mundial Vol. 2 (2023), a sophisticated album that included forays into cha-cha-chá, timba, and Latin jazz, as well as surprising reinterpretations. The vinyl compilation Fiesta Jazz The Album (2024) brought together the best of those productions. Now, with Te Tengo Noticias, Sánchez delivers his fourth studio album, solidifying C-SAN II as a relevant force within the new order of global salsa: a project that, from Philadelphia, builds musical bridges between the Caribbean, Latin America, and the entire world.
