Talented Young Actress Shania Brown now Tries her hand at Screenwriting

Rahway, New Jersey Jun 2, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Shania Brown, the 14-year old actress who recently starred in Snow Black, produced and directed by Robert D. Parham, is shocking the entertainment world again with her new film “Why Me?” which she co-wrote with the Executive Producer, her very own mother, Earlena Brown. The film is set to be released sometime in 2020.

In the movie, this wildly talented young lady plays Crystal Black, a teenager who is diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. The film depicts the struggles that this already broken family must endure while faced with the disorder. After the untimely death of her father, symptoms of Crystal’s undetected disorder began to emerge and she began to question ‘why me?’. The loss of her father, the only one who understood her, triggered in Crystal feelings of helplessness, deep sadness, and even suicidal thoughts.

Crystal struggles with her mental health as her mother, Mrs. Black, experiences a parent’s burden of caring for a child with mental health issues and after the loss of her husband, she faces them alone. Embarrassment and denial prevent Mrs. Black from initially getting young Crystal the help that she so desperately needs.

For many families suffering in silence, the film brings awareness to the challenges of mental health. It throws back the curtain on the stigma associated with mental health and shares how families can get through. The goal of the film is to let those who struggle with mental illness know that they are not alone in their fight and that they do not have to suffer in silence. It brings hope to the hopeless and awareness and sensitivity to those who may not otherwise understand.

Mrs. Black is played by Cynda Williams, a highly acclaimed actress who has shared her skill with the world on both television and movie screens in films such as Mo’ Better Blues and Turning Point.

The role of Crystal’s father, Thomas Black, is played by actor and director Hawthorne James well-known for his role as Big Red Davis in The Five Heartbeats.

As a young actress, Shania heralds from Memphis, Tennessee, and has already made a name for herself. Starring in her first film in 2019 alongside five-time World Martial Art Kickboxing Champion and four-time Golden Glove winner and Ron “The Black Dragon” Van Clief, Shania has been attracting the attention of many. This prodigy film star began her career when she was just eight years old with her television show “Keeping it Real with Shania”.

Mrs. Brown has the heart of an advocate, always looking to bring awareness to hidden issues and a voice to the voiceless. She shares with us where her inspiration for the film “Why Me?” came from. “I had a friend who I noticed suffered and was teased. Some teachers made it worse and I wanted to bring awareness to it. People that go through struggles, they don’t know who to talk to. They don’t know how to get through it and think no one will understand. I made this movie to show people they are not alone.”

Aside from screenwriting, acting, and her role as a television host, Shania is an activist, honor roll student, and vivacious teenager. In 2018, Shania Brown became the youngest filmmaker member to be inducted into the African American Women of Cinema at the Sundance Film Festival for her efforts with this film.

The film “Why Me?” was directed by acclaimed Director and Film Producer Robert D. Parham. Evertis D. Wright was the Director of Photography and was assisted by Yolanda McIntosh, Assistant Producer, and Unit Production Manager.

This talented young star is not only an actress and advocate, but she is also a producer, screenwriter, the owner of Vali Brown Productions, television host, a model, and brand ambassador for Van Miller International.
