Palm Beach, Florida Nov 15, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - The America First Policy Institute Gala was recently held in Palm Beach, Florida where Sylvester Stallone was among the attendees. He gave a fiery speech introducing Donald Trump at the Mar-A-Lago Club and called him "the 2nd George Washington." "We're in the presence of a really mythical character," he said, as it was captured in a C-SPAN video posted to X (formerly Twitter). "I love mythology. And this individual does not exist on this planet. Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off, so I'm in awe."
He further continued and made some out-of-the-field comparisons for the new President-elect. Stallone said, “When George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was gonna change the world. Because without him, you could imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We got the 2nd George Washington.”
Earlier during the brief introduction of the two, the Rocky writer-actor attached Trump to the title boxer in his film series. This evoked the original scene in the film where the camera pans out from a picture of Jesus Christ to Rocky, the lead, played by Stallone himself. “At that moment, he was a chosen person and that’s how I began the journey — something was gonna happen, this man was gonna go through a metamorphosis and change lives, just like President Trump,” he commented.
A short delay was made as can be heard in the pausing of ‘God Bless the USA’ by Lee Greenwood in the clip. However, Trump walked on stage and the two shared a tender moment with a warm and long-held handshake.
This was the first political endorsement made by Sylvester Stallone. He had previously stayed silent during the election cycles of 2016, 2020, and this year. He also revealed that he did not vote in presidential elections in the previous two cycles. However, in a previous interview with Variety in 2016, he said that he “love[s]” Trump and views the President-elect as a “great Dickensian character.” Later in 2018, the actor was pictured in the Oval Office posthumously pardoning former world champion boxer Jack Johnson alongside Trump.
