Chennai, Tamil Nadu May 28, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Students of RIT (Pranav & Ramaswamy under the guidance of our faculty Mrs. Subha. S) have developed an app to overcome the barriers of language in technical education. Their app enables the school and college students to input technical terms in English and gets detailed translation in their mother tongues such as description, visualisation and reference books. Unlike most other online platforms this app will suggest local authors and give context to the students with a native touch.

This app is launched by Dr.Shankar Venugopal, Vice President, Mahindra & Mahindra - Head Technology Innovation, Intellectual Property and Technical Capability Building as a part of a webinar event hosted by RIT on 24th May 2020.

Dr. Haree S Meganathan from the management of RIT said that "We are very proud of our students to have developed an app which cuts across linguistic and geographical barriers, I appreciate the work delivered by them".

ABOUT THE APP:

It is an android app which was developed to help students to understand the various technical terms in their mother tongue. Through this app, the user can lookout for a list of words from Computer Science discipline. At present, we have added four languages Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Once the user clicks on the word, he/she will see an image with the translated term and description.

Our main intension was to help students who are not good at English. We want them to understand the concept correctly. The words are chosen in such a way that we have covered different levels from school to college. All these words are fundamentals in Computer Science and students come across these words while they learn.

We used the Android Studio, which is the official IDE for developing android apps. We used java as the programming language. In order to store the data, we used Google’s firebase as our database.

In order to develop this app as a full product, it took a month’s time for us. We followed the Agile Model to develop our app. Agile is one of the software development lifecycle models and is currently followed by all the companies.

When it comes to the development team, Pranav Kumar K and Ramasamy NS of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology had developed this app.

Our future works in this app are to support other languages apart from the ones which we have now added. We also are trying to make this as an AI-powered app which will intelligently help students to understand better. We also have plans to integrate the support of Augmented Reality. Augmented Reality is a technology which will impose 3d images on the application. This will help students to practically understand how everything is working.
