Montreal, Quebec Oct 5, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Award-winning French-Canadian director Pascal Payant just released his second feature film, Stolen Season, now available worldwide on Amazon and Itunes.
"A therapist spirals into obsession when evidence emerges that her new patient may in fact be the child she surrendered 17 years ago."
Director Pascal Payant tackles the delicate subject of adoption, love, and loss in a twisted, dream-like style. For over 15 years, Pascal Payant has directed, written, and produced every aspect of his films. Always filmed with a sole crew member, his sound operator Alisa Erlikh, this film is no exception. Together they teamed up on the project and shot in Portland Oregon.
Stolen Season is the perfect example of guerrilla filmmaking. With a micro-budget, Pascal shot entirely with one handheld camera and all-natural lighting. Utilizing Portland's stunning scenery, he used the natural appeal of the locations to make each frame as grand and stylish as possible.
Emerging talent, Abbey Siegworth, is the core of this film. Her grounded and sensitive portrayal brings layers of complexity and warmth to her role of Ariane; a therapist obsessed with finding the son she was forced to surrender for adoption 17 years ago. Pascal's directing style fits Abbey perfectly. Together, they crafted moments in the film that let her talent shine, giving Abby the opportunity to play and not hold back. With ease, Siegworth conveys the tsunami of pain her character has long endured. A combination of world-weariness and blithe indifference, she delivers a tremendous, complicated must-see performance.
Actor Matthew Bilodeau, in his feature film debut, brings charm and petulant rebellion to the role of Logan, Arianna's son. The lead's chemistry and dynamic performances, coupled with Payant's knowing eye for detail, slick camera set-ups, and assured direction, make Stolen Season an enthralling character study.
Pascal Payant has become one of indie cinema's most singular figures of late. His smooth, eerie style and penchant for strikingly beautiful actors has now become somewhat of a signature with this sophomore feature. It has many elements of what makes a Pascal Payant film so distinctive: raw emotions that are amplified by self-destructive characters masking an inability to communicate, bold pop-based scores, and a heavily ethereal style that gives a sense of stepping out of time and looking back into a very private moment through a dreamlike lense. Pascal continues to be an inspiration in the filmmaking community, shepherding the notion of not waiting on big money to create beautiful content. With three feature films completing in the span of three years, he's proven that all you need is drive and passion.
Stolen Season is now available on Itunes and Amazon worldwide.
