Mumbai, Maharashtra Jan 7, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - The Statue of Chandra Shekhar, former Prime Minister of India, was unveiled recently by Sharad Pawar at Bharat Yatra Kendra, Parantwadi, Maval, Pune. The statue is dedicated to the ‘Volunteers of Bharat PadhYatra’. Sudhindra Bhadoriya, Permanent Trustee of Bharat Yatra Kendra, Dr D Y Patil, Ex-Governor of Bihar and Tripura, Shrirag Barne, Member of Parliament, Loksabha, Amar Sable, Member of Parliament, Rajyasabha, Dr Ajeenkya DY Patil and Neeraj Shekhar, Member of Parliament, Rajyasabha were among the distinguished dignitaries who graced the occasion.
All dignitaries were welcomed by Dr Ajeenkya DY Patil, President of Ajeenkya DY Patil University and DY Patil Group.
In his introductory speech, Sudhindra Bhadoriya took the audience back in time when Janata Party President, Chandra Shekhar, started his high profile Bharat Yatra from Kanyakumari. Neeraj Shekhar, son of Shri Chandra Shekhar fondly recalled childhood memories of his father, thereby gave a fascinating insight into the persona of the former Prime Minister.
Sharad Pawar addressed the crowd by recalling the contribution of the legend Chandra Shekhar. He opined Chandra Shekhar's padayatra was unique and similar in many aspects like the Pad Yatra of Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave. He was the first politician in recent times to walk from Kanyakumari to New Delhi and do it in a record six months.
Supriya Sule, Member of Parliament, Loksabha felicitated all Bharat Padh Yatris present on the occasion, who had contributed with Chandra Shekhar during the journey from Kanyakumari to New Delhi.
The event was also graced by the presence of Sunil Shelke, MLA, Nana Navale, Ex-Member of Parliament, Madan Bafna Ex-Member of Parliament, Krushnakant Bhegade, Ex-MLA, Vilas Lande Ex-MLA, Mangalatai Kadam and Yogesh Behel, Ex-Mayor, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
