District of Columbia, United States Jan 8, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - The Spill Control Association of America (SCAA), the Voice of the Response Industry, today urged Congress to pass Senate Bill 21The Pay Our Coast Guard Act. Introduced by Senator John Thune of South Dakota, this bill makes continuous appropriations for Coast Guard pay in the event of a government shutdown and bring the service in line with their Department of Defense military and civilian counterparts.

Since 1790, Coast Guard personnel have been at the forefront of a multi-mission service that is dedicated to national security, environmental protection, marine safety, and military readiness. Members of the Coast Guard... enlisted and officer...military and civilian... have performed these mission requirements without question and with selfless dedication to our country.  When appropriations run out to fund the civilian government, they have always continued to stay  "on board, on duty".     Under this current shutdown, these dedicated Americans continue to serve their country... all while staring down a severe hardship that does not face their military (and civilian) compatriots in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, and Air Force.

"As a partner and stakeholder in environmental protection and marine safety, we support the dedication of the members of the United States Coast Guard," said SCAA President Devon Grennan.   "Under this government shutdown, we see over 40,000 dedicated Americans performing selfless acts of heroism, saving lives, protecting our environment...and doing so without knowing when their next paycheck may be deposited...this situation should not be occurring and should be remedied"
