Atlanta, Georgia Jan 17, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Zane Venture Fund today announced that angel investing expert Sig Mosley has joined as a Venture Partner of the $10 million funds to support its mission of investing in founders with diverse teams.

Mosley is one of the most prolific investors in the country and to date has led the largest venture deal in the Southeast – the $5.7 billion acquisition of Tradex by Ariba. Given Mosley’s interest in investing in diverse teams and supporting communities, he decided to join Zane as a Venture Partner to support both the fund and the thesis of investing in diverse teams that are focused on solving problems in our communities.

“Having been an investor for three decades, I have come to realize that it is possible to both prioritize investments in companies led by women and multicultural entrepreneurs and maximize returns,” said Mosley, managing partner of Mosley Ventures, a venture fund that invests in early-stage technology startups in the Southeast. “Diverse entrepreneurs hold the key to a trillion-dollar market. I believe joining Zane Ventures is a wonderful opportunity with mutual rewards”

Zane Venture Fund, named after Burney’s daughter, a victim of gun violence, was founded in late 2018to address the gap in capital investments in tech-enabled startups led by founders of color and women.

Zane invests in companies led by these diverse founders who assemble teams comprised of people from different walks of life and focus on solving problems in communities that have often experienced decades of marginalization through institutionalized segregation and economic isolation.

“Sig has served as a mentor and friend as I’ve worked to establish Zane Venture Fund. It is an honor to have him join our team as a Venture Partner, which will allow us to leverage his expertise, relationships and his experience in selecting profitable companies,” Burney said. “With his insight and commitment to empowering diverse founders, we have a team in place with both the

operational and investment expertise to manage a fund and support the founders in our care.”

Investing in companies led by diverse founders is not just socially responsible, but it is also a better way to invest. Inclusive teams are proving to be exceptional at supporting companies and communities around the world.

A 2018 McKinsey & Company study of more than 1,000 companies across 12 countries found that enterprises in the top quartile for gender diversity on their executive teams were 21 percent more likely to experience above-average profitability.

Meanwhile, over-indexing for ethnic and cultural diversity resulted in a 33 percent increase in performance, though the importance of diversity goes beyond gender, race, ethnicity, and cultural background. A 2018 report showed employees of companies that were diverse in both inherent and acquired diversity (traits gained from life and work experiences)were 45 percent more likely to report a growth in market share over the previous year and 70 percent more likely to report the firm successfully captured a new market.

Zane Venture Fund targets early-stage, tech-enabled B2B or B2C companies, led by exceptional diverse teams, that expand the lives of everyday individuals and communities around the globe. Based in Atlanta, Zane will invest primarily in the Southeast and then expand to invest in winning diverse teams across the country.
