"I think now more than ever people are realizing the power that a great credit score holds,” Martin says, “People have been furloughed or laid off altogether, and have no resources besides the government's one-time stimulus check.” Those conditions make it tempting to fall for something that turns out to be a scam.
Martin says these types of scams can take many forms, such as phishing emails asking you to validate your account information, texts allegedly from the Federal Reserve offering to partner with a local bank to fix your credit, or just unknowledgeable people sending messages to your social media inboxes claiming to be able to fix your credit fast, and for a too-good-to-be-true fee.
“Credit has become more important to survival because it can provide immediate economic stability in the face of a crisis like the one America is facing right now,” she says.
