Semiotic Labs Wins Water Innovation Award

Predictive analytics system SAM4 takes prestigious industry prize

Amsterdam, Netherlands Dec 21, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Dutch technology innovator Semiotic Labs has won the Water Alliance’s WIS Award 2020 for SAM4, the company’s groundbreaking system to monitor the health of industrial electric motors and rotating equipment. Head juror Cees Buisman of Europe’s Wetsus center for sustainable water technology announced the winner during the online Grand Finale, which was streamed globally on Friday, December 18. The prestigious water industry award includes a 10,000 euro prize to support the winner’s international marketing efforts.

The SAM4 system uses electrical waveform analysis to predict when and why industrial machines will fail, often months in advance. The use of current and voltage data paired with advanced machine learning gives SAM4 several advantages over other condition monitoring technologies. Many of these benefits are particularly relevant for water treatment systems. For example, the system’s battery-free sensors install in the motor control cabinet, not on the equipment itself, which makes it possible to reliably monitor pumps, mixers and agitators that are submerged in sludge, wastewater, or chemicals. SAM4 can also track pump performance in real-time, plotting actual operation against the pump curve so operators can literally see how the pump is performing relative to its best efficiency point. These and other performance metrics help water companies save energy and extend equipment lifetime.

“This award is fantastic news, and recognition for the hard work our team has put into developing SAM4 into a system that brings real value to our clients,” says Simon Jagers, Semiotic Labs’ cofounder. “I believe that it is not about the technology per se, but about helping to bring out the best in people. Being recognized as a winner by the Water Alliance helps us to share our message, and distribute our technology across the globe.”
