Dr. Werner’s interest in orthodontics and the dental health field stems from his father. At a very young age, he began watching his father and was influenced greatly by his creativity and mechanical dexterity needed to achieve results expected by patients.
Dr. Werner graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. Additionally, he earned his Master of Science degree in orthodontics from the University of Detroit Mercy.
In dental school, Dr. Werner was awarded the Richard Doggett Dean & Marguerite Taylor Dean Honorary Odontological Society Scholarship Award. He was also a member of the IMHOTEP Leadership Society, president of the Psi Omega Dental Fraternity, and vice president of his dental class.
After completing his residency in orthodontics in 1992, Dr. Werner published articles in the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics and the Angle Orthodontist. He also taught orthodontics at the University of Tennessee Dental School for a number of years. Dr. Werner is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. In fact, less than 50% of orthodontists achieve Diplomate status with the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Werner has presented lectures at the American Association of Dental Research in San Francisco and the International Association of Dental Research in Montreal. He has also published papers in the Cleft Palate Journal and the Journal of Dental Research.
Dr. Werner is a member of the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Dentists. In previous years, Dr. Werner was president of the Memphis Association of Orthodontists, the Tennessee Association of Orthodontists, and the Memphis Dental Society. He also served as a delegate to the Tennessee Dental Association.
Memphis Dental Society awarded Dr. Werner the Outstanding Young Dentist Award for 1999-2000. The Tennessee Dental Association also presented him with the Fellowship Award for Distinguished Service. Along with his father, Dr. Werner has been voted one of Memphis’s “Top Dentists” every year since 2008.
Dr. Werner and his family are members of St. Louis Catholic Church, where he has been involved with the youth group as an advisor and has served as a member of the Pastoral Council. In his spare time, Dr. Werner enjoys being with his family, golfing, hunting, boating, and following the Memphis Tigers. He has coached soccer, T-ball, basketball, and golf.
