Sankofa Fundraising Gala to Help Build Specialty Surgical Hospital in Africa

Baltimore, Maryland Dec 5, 2018 (Issuewire.com)  - The Foundation for Special Surgery will hold its inaugural annual Sankofa Fundraising Gala, a transformative evening in support of complex surgical care and training in Africa. A celebration of the holiday season, the highly-anticipated event will be held on December 15, 2018, at the Bretton Woods Country Club, Germantown, MD from 6:30 pm to 10 pm.

Ghanaian-born American physician Dr. Kofi Boahene, an acclaimed facial plastic surgeon at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and a faculty at the Center for Global Health, will be a keynote speaker.

Maryland-based nonprofit organization The Foundation for Special Surgery is raising awareness and much-needed funds to build a specialty surgical hospital in Ghana. Thanks to this initiative, young men and women in Africa will be afforded a unique opportunity to receive specialized surgical training with which they will be able to make a living while providing world-class surgical care to their fellow Africans. The foundation has commitments from surgeons throughout the world, who work in outstanding institutions and will volunteer their time to help train and assist local surgeons at this hospital.

“There are people in many places in Africa who, after a serious leg injury, may well end up with amputation as the first response because there aren’t the microsurgeons available who know how to repair blood vessels and nerves to save a limb,” Dr. Boahene says, “the fundraising gala is a unique opportunity for everyone to help in any way possible.”

Proceeds from the gala will be used to build the specialty surgical hospital in Ghana.
Guests can look forward to cocktails, dinner, live entertainment and much more.
