Austin, Texas Aug 13, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Saffron Trust Women's Foundation (STWF) has partnered with community partners to provide Austin families with a way to acquire needed provisions. During COVID, the organization has provided more than 70K in cash and gift cards to families who might otherwise be unsure of their next meal.

This year, STWF will be celebrating two years in operation. The founder and CEO Phyllis Everette is passionate and relentless about changing lives and improving outcomes for vulnerable populations—many of whom are minorities living in deprived communities with disproportionate disparities in healthcare, food sufficiency, education, and justice systems. COVID-19 has exposed the challenges of these disparities and propelled Phyllis to bring attention to communities where black and brown families struggle. STWF was recognized as one of 30 nonprofits founders that will impact the world for 2020.   Saffron Trust Women's Foundation continues to provide access,  support and resources for low-income mothers to reduce stressors that lead to disparities in health and wellness using two key strategies, Trendsetting the Table and Supporting partner efforts that complement Saffron Trust's Women's Foundation mission.

Phyllis also launched, "When" He Can't Breathe, I Can't Either!,  a movement founded in 2020 as a direct response to the countless murders of unarmed African American men at the hands of law enforcement. Through advocacy, mentorship, and support, her goal is to give voice to the mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives of our African American males who died prematurely. When a Black Man Can't Breathe, it affects not only him but his family and community. Now the world is watching …when a black man Can't Breathe and how it rips at the heart of the nation. Phyllis imagines this New movement will bring women together in solidarity to discuss the effects of racial related Trauma and what it is doing to the families of Black men because "When "He" Can't Breathe… As Women, We Can't Either".  She feels strongly that this is a global conversation that needs to be discussed. Melody S. Holt, an educator turned entrepreneur,  motivational speaker, author, mother, CEO and co-founder of a multi-million dollar business, has also signed on with Saffron Trust Women’s Foundation in hopes of utilizing her celebrity status to heighten awareness to the movement.

Austin is one of the most economically segregated cities in the country while holding the highest maternal mortality rate; STWF is fighting a twofold battle, as it knows these issues are linked to the racial related trauma. Phyllis, a strong advocate, uses every opportunity to raise awareness of why it is crucial that racially diverse perspectives of communities are given a seat at the table and the discussion about this Internalized Racial Oppression in our Nation, and what it is doing to our women must be brought to the forefront.

Phyllis is currently part of the Williamson County Alliance for Maternal and Infant Outreach, March of Dimes on African American Outreach – Health Disparities on Racial and Socioeconomic Disparities in Infant Mortality and Adverse Birth Outcomes. She was also selected for the 2020 class of Essential Leadership Austin.  Partnering with African American Youth Harvest Foundation, Everette is also part of the Austin CARES mentoring initiative, an affiliate of the National CARES Mentoring Movement founded and led by Susan L. Taylor, who served as editor-in-chief of Essence from 1981 through 2000.
