New Delhi, Delhi Sep 2, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - RSSDI’s Defeat Diabetes Campaign Receives Blessings from Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar.
A delegation of doctors from The Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) led by RSSDI President Dr Banshi Saboo met Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar at Bengaluru to seek his blessings and support for the Defeat Diabetes Campaign of RSSDI. RSSDI launched its Defeat Diabetes Campaign on 1st July with an objective of reaching 100 million people in 100 days with a mission to increase awareness on diabetes and a vision to Test Track and Treat Diabetes. The Program was inaugurated by the Honorable Chief Justice of India- Justice N.V Ramana. Dr Banshi Saboo Informed that India has the second largest number of population living with diabetes. Diabetes is also a major comorbidity for Covid 19 infection - leading to increased hospital stay, poor outcomes and increased mortality.What is most worrisome is the fact that diabetes is now affecting people at a younger age. This increases the risk of all diabetes related complications like heart attack, stroke, kidney failure. Increasing awareness about the disease is the only way to deal with the silent epidemic. Dr Sunil Gupta -Treasurer of RSSDI informed that most of the complications of diabetes can be avoided if diabetes is detected timely and controlled with lifestyle modifications and treatment. RSSDI along with The Art of Living (AOL) and partner organizations like Rotary International, Beat O and Torrent Pharma will conduct a drive to test one million people in one day on 29th sep 2021.Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar extended his blessing to the campaign and appreciated the work of RSSDI and said that diabetes is a global problem and a holistic approach is very important to address the burden of diabetes. Stress also contributes to rise in blood sugar by increasing the secretion of stress hormones like cortisol. Meditation and Breathing techniques like Sudarshan Kriya can help in reducing stress. He also said the “One Day One Million Tests” initiative will raise awareness about the disease. Gurudev also launched the app and web portal for the campaign (defeatdiabetes.online) . Dr Bal Inamdar ( Rotary India Medical Head) also emphasized the need of programs aimed at diabetes education and said that more than 2500 sites will be created by Rotary all across India for the initiative. Dr Amit Gupta (Member National Task force RSSDI) requested everyone to participate in this national campaign and support the fight against diabetes. He informed that Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishankar will launch the campaign “one day one million tests on 28th sep 2021.
