Reminiscing the Chinese heritage at the Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2018, Singapore

Festival, culture, food, history and celebration - 8th September - 8th October 2018

Singapore, Singapore Aug 26, 2018 (Issuewire.com)  - The Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival will kick start on 8 September 2018 with the Official Light-up and Opening Ceremony.

Singaporeans and visitors are invited to reminisce about the Chinese Heritage of Chinatown and recapture fond memories with long-forgotten Cantonese dishes, much-loved accordion lanterns and street decorations showcasing Chinatown stories.

Themed “Our Chinatown. Our Mid-Autumn”, this year’s festival will recapture the scenes and life experiences of Singapore’s Chinatown in the 50’s and 60’s. It aims to teach people about the Chinese traditions and heritage, and the lives of their forefathers.

The festival will feature centerpieces of early Chinese immigrants, accordion paper lanterns, nightly stage shows with exciting dragon dance performances on weekends, the ever-popular lantern painting competition, and mass lantern walk. A night event “Reliving The Yesteryears Once More” will feature popular Cantonese cuisine with two rare Cantonese dishes: “Gold Coin Chicken” and “Prawn Toast.

Hand-crafted lanterns, painted with orchids, peonies and hydrangeas and others in vibrant shades of red, pink, yellow and orange will festoon Chinatown. The design of Mid-Autumn Festival Street Light-up 2018 is the 3rd collaboration between the Organising Committee and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA).

Some other key highlights of this year’s festival include:

  • Singapore Book of Records attempt for the most oriental masks worn at the same time!
  • Nightly Stage Shows, with Dragon Dance performance during the weekend
  • Lantern Painting Competition
  • Festive Street Bazaar, with over 200 street stalls
  • Mass Lantern Walk, with pit-stops to learn more about the Chinatown heritage
