Founder and President of the Marseille Web Fest, Jean Michel Albert says, " We are very excited to welcome back the very talented Charles Reese to host our closing ceremony awards and present our newest annual award to pay homage to our colleague and dear friend, Michael Ajakwe, Jr." The Marseille Web Fest will be honoring the late founder of the Los Angeles Web Series Festival--Emmy Award winning writer-producer, Michael Ajakwe, Jr. He created the first web series festival in the world in 2010 and was instrumental in helping to launch the Marseille Web Fest in 2011. In addition, Ajakwe’s web series, WHO ( adapted to a TV series, Beauty and The Baller for BET Networks, a division of Viacom) was a part of the first web series festival in Marseille which co-starred Charles Reese. Ajakwe also served as the Honorary President for the Marseille Web Fest from 2012 - 2015 and received a special medallion from the mayor of Marseille.
Reese states, "This is a full circle moment for me as I participated in the first Marseille Web Fest with my friend and producer, Michael Ajakwe Jr. Returning to host this year and presenting a new annual award in Michael's name means a great deal to me, his wife, Tammy Ajakwe and the entire Ajakwe family." The Michael Ajakwe Jr., Pioneer Award marks the fifth award named in his honor from the International Web Series Community which Ajakwe championed and nurtured for many years prior to his passing on May 31, 2018 from pancreatic cancer in Los Angeles, CA.
