Raleigh-based Start-up Expands Sharing Economy into Commercial Kitchen Space

Space-n-Thyme aims to make a market for Triangle-based food entrepreneurs and owners of rentable kitchen space, the company announces.

Raleigh, North Carolina Jun 21, 2019 (Issuewire.com)  - The move draws inspiration from similar market makers in the "shared economy" that connect buyers and sellers, or owners and renters.

Space-n-Thyme also seeks to become a network market place. The idea is to give caterers and food entrepreneurs an affordable production workspace, minus the capital costs of purchasing, licensing and operating kitchens and equipment. Kitchen owners meanwhile get to make money on their space during off-hours or off-seasons. That's a potentially substantial income for restaurants, recreation venues and even some churches, says Ty McDuffie, owner and founder of Space-n-Thyme.

McDuffie, a corporate sales professional, noticed that many food entrepreneurs struggle with production capacity due to inadequate kitchen space and industrial equipment and other would be entrepreneurs never even get to launch because of high startup costs.  Both of these scenarios result in lost revenue. At the same time, he realized that there is a lot of unused kitchen space owned by various individuals and organizations. "Our idea is to give an extra payday to kitchen owners while providing affordable workspace and equipment to aspiring service providers.", McDuffie says.

Space-n-Thyme has an agreement in principle with a large restaurant group with multiple locations across NC and has plans to focus initial growth in the Triangle and Charlotte areas in late 2019.
