Priyanka Paul, a painter bringing the subtle human aspects on the canvas

A humble homemaker’s quest for expressionism through traditional Indian Art.

kolkata, West bengal Aug 18, 2022 (Issuewire.com)  - Her paintings have a unique appeal. Priyanka Paul’s inquisitiveness in the Indian traditional art forms is visible in her paintings. It is an amalgamation of different traditional Indian schools of art forms such as Kangra, Guler, Basohli, etc.

When asked about the inspiration behind her paintings, Priyanka said that she derives the ideas from traditional Indian Miniature paintings and tries to experiment with them. In her own words, the more she does, the more she learns.

In modern times when the Indian fine arts industry is mostly westernized, Priyanka’s works stand different and vibrant.

Traditional Indian paintings mostly revolve around Gods and Goddesses. According to some, in the era when the abstract form of paintings is dominant in the realm of expressionism, Indian traditional paintings seem monotonous. But from Priyanka’s perspective, the perception is quite different.

“Indian traditional paintings simplistically depict the core human values. To evaluate the form of art one need to have clarity of thought process and a simple mind” she says. She added that “In modern day-to-day life, we get so disturbed and distracted that; we have forgotten to find joy in simple things. You will find that modern couples, rather than enjoying one another’s closeness, are busy scrolling their mobile phone. In that way, relationships are getting bitter day by day. ”

In her paintings, Priyanka has been trying to depict, how even the Gods and Goddess find joy in small things, which can add value to human lives. Her paintings are based on popular mythological characters and simple well-known stories. Sometimes she derives the idea from medieval miniature paintings. But all paintings have some antique color combinations, optimistic representations, and a unique message. The theme is simple and loud; ‘great things always have simple roots.

For a homemaker and a painter, to Priyanka, this is not only a career; rather it is a way of conveying her way of solution to modern-day neo-social problems.
