Philadelphia DA Suing Elon Musk Now Wants Enhanced Security amid Threats

Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk was sued by a Philadelphia district attorney for his million-dollar giveaways. Now, the DA has asked the court to increase security.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania Oct 31, 2024 (Issuewire.com)  - A Philadelphia district attorney has sued Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk and an American super PAC for the million-dollar giveaway. On Wednesday, the district attorney asked the court to increase security at the planned hearing of the case on Friday. He also asked Elon Musk to appear in person, as he said that he received threats over the lawsuit from Musk's supporters.

Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner has sued Elon Musk and America PAC over their daily 1 million dollar giveaway to a random voter from a swing state who signs a petition on the PAC's website. The lawsuit has a scheduled hearing on Friday on whether the court would block the giveaway. On Wednesday, the DA asked the court to "enhance its security surrounding the hearing." He suggested that the hearing should either be held at Philadelphia's City Hall - where it was already scheduled to happen with its security increased, or to be moved to a local center for criminal justice that is more "fully staffed with sheriffs than City Hall."

To justify the demand for increased security, the DA cited Musk attacking Krasner on social media after the lawsuit was filed. The billionaire claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that Krasner "knows [the giveaway is] not illegal but wants a leftist judge to stop it before Election Day." This tweet sparked a reaction among users. The DA also alleged that this tweet also generated "unquestionably … criminal" threats against Krasner from Musk's supporters and Musk allies "inviting political violence." The allegation against Musk noted that one user posted Krasner's home address and told followers, "Krasner loves visitors. Mask up and leave all cellphones at home."

Krasner also requested the court to make all parties appear in person at the hearing, including Elon Musk. The hearing of the lawsuit is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in Philadelphia. It is quite unclear whether the judge will rule the blocking of $1 million giveaways then or the ruling will come later. Musk has already publicly opposed the lawsuit. In addition to that, America PAC has continued its million-dollar giveaways even after the intensified legal scrutiny. Krasner alleges that this giveaway violates Pennsylvania law as the state only allows lotteries that are regulated and administered by the state.
