New York City, New York May 2, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - Dr. Kvamme is a board-certified and fellowship-trained diagnostic and interventional radiologist with fellowship training in both Interventional Radiology and NeuroInterventional Surgical Radiology who is a part of the team at Association of University Radiologists, P.C. in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Association of University Radiologists, P.C., also known as “University Radiology”, has been practicing high-quality radiology and nuclear medicine services since 1984. University Radiology has over 40 radiologists comprised of sub-specialized, fellowship-trained physicians in every imaging modality, including neuroradiology, musculoskeletal radiology, body imaging, women’s imaging, cardiothoracic imaging, interventional radiology, interventional neuroradiology, and nuclear medicine (including PET and PET CT specialists).

With special interests and dedicated fellowship training in both NeuroInterventional Surgery (also known as Interventional Neuroradiology) and Interventional Radiology, Dr. Kvamme also serves as an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine, located in Knoxville within the University of Tennessee Medical Center.  NeuroInterventional Surgery is a minimally invasive approach that uses techniques to treat many different vascular diseases of the central nervous system including stroke, brain aneurysms or brain/spine AVMs.  NeuroInterventional Surgical Radiologists see some of the most complex blood vessel conditions in the brain and spine.  These physicians use minimally invasive procedures to treat intricate cases in the shortest amount of time- cases that in the recent past were considered untreatable.

As the region’s only academic medical center, Magnet® recognized hospital and Level I Trauma Center, the University of Tennessee Medical Center serves as a major referral center for East Tennessee, Southeast Kentucky, and Western North Carolina. The 685-bed hospital also is home of the region’s only dedicated Heart Hospital, only adult and pediatric transplant center, and the region’s first Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, certified by the Joint Commision and American Heart/American Stroke Association. This means that patients are recognized on a national level as receiving the highest quality of care offered in the health care industry and have better outcomes. For over a decade, the team has been recognized annually by the American Heart Association’s Get-with-the-Guidelines Stroke Initiative.  This recognition highlights the commitment to providing the very best quality of care and improving outcomes.  Moreover, this commitment to excellence is highlighted in the hospital’s dedicated, private-room ‘state-of-the-art’ Neuro-Critical Care unit with an elite critical care team of specially-trained and certified ‘neuro’-ICU nurses and advanced practitioners.  There are more neurointensivists (medical doctors that specialize in critically ill neurological/neurosurgical patients) than any other hospital in East Tennessee.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1992 after he earned his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He then went on to complete his internship at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, followed by his residency in nuclear medicine at the Baylor College of Medicine and his residency in diagnostic radiology at St. Francis Medical Center. Thereafter, he completed his fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the Louisiana State University Medical Center, and his fellowship in Surgical Interventional Neuroradiology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Attributing his success to treating his patients like family, working hard, and remaining dedicated to his field, Dr. Kvamme is board-certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is an independent, not-for-profit organization and is one of 24 national medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties.

In order to advance his efforts, he remains a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery, the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology, the American Stroke Association, the Society of Interventional Radiology, the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe, the American College of Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the Radiology Society of North America.

On a more personal note, Dr. Kvamme enjoys all sporting events and spending time with his family. His favorite professional publications include the Journal of Stroke & Cerebrovascular Diseases and the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery.
