Mijas, Malaga Aug 21, 2024 (Issuewire.com) - For years, PACMA and other animal rights organizations have been voicing concerns about the treatment of these animals. Recently, PACMA filed two complaints within 72 hours regarding the alleged mistreatment of donkeys in Mijas.
"We have documented instances that we believe warrant immediate attention," stated Isabel Ardao, PACMA coordinator in Fuengirola-Mijas. "Our goal is to ensure these animals receive proper care and treatment."
The first complaint was based on the observed condition of a donkey in its resting area. The second followed a video recorded by a passerby, showing a donkey struggling to get up after falling while carrying equipment.
These incidents have reignited discussions about animal welfare in the tourism industry. PACMA reports that despite the implementation of some measures, such as suspending the donkey-taxi service during extreme weather alerts, they believe more comprehensive changes are necessary.
