Owner Of Independent Jewellery Retailer Launches Charity Necklaces To Help Survivors Of Domestic Abuse

Emma White, the owner of jewellery retailer, The Jewellery Makers, has created two charity rainbow necklaces in the wake of the significant rise in reported domestic abuse cases.

West Yorkshire, United Kingdom Mar 26, 2021 (Issuewire.com)  - Based in the UK, The Jewellery Makers is an online collective of artisan jewellery designers working out of independent studios across the country.

Founder and jewellery maker Emma White has created two charity rainbow necklaces to raise money for domestic abuse charity, Leeds Women’s Aid, a charity that continues to be a lifeline for many vulnerable people. The handmade necklaces, named ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ and ‘I Kinda Think You’re Amazing’, were inspired by the dramatic rise in domestic abuse cases reported during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown restrictions. A rise which has recently been labelled an ‘epidemic beneath a pandemic’ by the BBC. For every one of these necklaces sold, £25 will be donated to Leeds Women’s Aid to help fund their services, including emergency refuge accommodation, 24/7 telephone helpline, and drop-in services.

Founder Emma White commented on the inspiration behind the necklaces:

“We are all being told to stay home to stay safe, but what if the home is not safe? It has become a mantra of our time, but for some, home is not the safe haven it is for others. Thousands of adults and children are victims of domestic abuse, exacerbated by this time of lockdown and social distancing.

This is a time of great difficulty but also of great kindness. I created these necklaces as a symbol of hope, to be given as a gift for those whom you are missing, for someone who is working to make home the best place to be, or maybe for someone who has stayed home to protect us all, because they are isolating or protecting someone else who is vulnerable”.
