At an age when most start "winding it down", a little-known singer from Florida is just getting started.
"I always wanted to have my own album," says new artist, Heath Nichols. "It just never worked out that way. Back in the day, you had to find a record company that thought you'd be marketable. Nowadays, you can do it all yourself." He's had one foot in the industry since the age of 20 as a performer and demo singer. At the age of 49, he began writing his own songs with a goal to put them out by 50. Unfortunately, he didn't meet that goal. But he did at 51.
As a husband and father of two, finding time to put things together was a difficult task. "I used to be in the studio for hours a day writing and recording. Today, there are so many talented people online to work with that it made it possible."
Writing and collaborating on nearly 70 songs over the last year, he's whittled it down to the top 25, which will be released later this fall.
"We perform all types of music for our shows - so it's been hard to find my voice at times. Ultimately, the best songs that came from writing wound up being country and pop. I'm just hoping people like it."
As a former demo singer and member of the Alabama group, Devoue, Nichols has worked in multiple musical genres. He currently performs as one of the members of the South Florida cover-trio, The Highlights.
His first single, "I Do" is a catchy country/pop available on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms on May 21st.
