About Karen Frank Barney
Karen Frank Barney discovered her passion for occupational therapy at the young age of 12 and has remained dedicated to the field ever since. With over 13 years of hands-on experience working in hospitals and skilled care facilities, she transitioned into academia in 1980, becoming an influential occupational therapy educator. Throughout her distinguished 5 decade career, Karen has taught at both the associate degree and professional levels across four higher education institutions, including Madison College, Eastern Kentucky University, Washington University, and Saint Louis University.
Her remarkable contributions to the field were recognized when she was awarded Emerita status at Saint Louis University, honoring her legacy of excellence in teaching and mentoring future occupational therapists.
Karen is also deeply committed to her family. She is happily married and takes great pride in being the mother of four children, grandmother to seven, and great-grandmother to eight.
