Nottingham, Nottinghamshire Apr 27, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - This week, the Government announced that disadvantaged children across England will be given free laptops and tablets to enable them to study online while schools are closed.

“Having access to technology is a great equaliser. Carefully structured software that guides pupils through learning, which is mapped to the National Curriculum, is effective as it provides a standardised approach for all learners at home. Everyone gets remote access to the same quality information. Software like Kaligo, a handwriting app and one billion for early maths, make a huge difference for our pupils in school because they can work on what they need to learn next”, Marc Faulder, a Teacher at Burton Joyce Primary School in Nottingham said.

The groups included are those who are care leavers, children with social worker support and year 10 pupils, who sit GCSEs next year, will receive devices if they do not already have them, the government announced today.

Faisal Hamid from the Award-winning EdTech App Kaligo added: “Technology undoubtedly helps to level the playing field and also helps children to stay connected to their friends and teachers whilst they are at home.  This is critically important for their mental health during this extended period away from their friends and school. Finding new, fun ways to learn through technology also helps to keep pupils engaged, which means they make better progress.”

Ensuring that they can also gain access to the required networks, 4G routers will be supplied to families who do not have mobile or broadband internet to ensure children can access online resources. Data charges will be temporarily waived on certain sites providing educational resources.

Kaligo is offering their handwriting app for free whilst schools are closed.  To find out more please visit www.kaligo-apps.com/kaligo-practice
