New York City, New York Aug 16, 2020 (Issuewire.com)  - NJ artist, 11 year old Isabella Alberto-Garcia’s work has been selected by Rockefeller Center to be part of its public art installation in New York City. The International design challenge asked artists to design flags that represented their love for New York City.

Isabella’s work can be seen both in the plaza and flying high on one of the flagpoles in the public art installation (normally the flags of the members of the United Nations fly there). Over 1,200 entries were received from around the world and only 180 were selected. Each winning design was made into an 8-foot by 5-foot flag. “My design represents my point of view of how we’ve been living these past few months…through a computer. My original characters represent all different types of people coming together to keep each other strong. I added my twist to the Hamilton poster with my original character because we had Hamilton tickets but the show was canceled because of Covid-19,” said Isabella Alberto-Garcia.

The flags will fly around Rockefeller Center’s famous ice rink and restaurant plaza through August 16th. (this has just been extended to Sunday, August 23rd.) Isabella hopes to become a professional artist and animator. She has been drawing since the age of 5 and has a portfolio of original characters she hopes to one day bring to life on the big screen. She also plays the piano and is involved with theatre groups.

“ I was so excited to be selected and to be in the company of so many talented artists from around the world! I went to see my flag and I couldn’t believe it! Please go see it if you can. “ said Alberto-Garcia

In addition to the winners, Rockefeller Center commissioned work from 13 of New York’s most respected artists, including fashion designer Christian Siriano, sculptor Jeff Koons, visual artist Shantell Martin and musical artist Laurie Anderson.

Isabella attends regular art class and has won art based awards throughout her school years.
