Atlanta, Georgia Feb 3, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - The Long-Awaited Mixed Media Tarot is making headway on Kickstarter now! This project has been described as “unique” and “personal” by supporters and is beautifully curated by the artist. Robyn Mallery is an art student at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco California. This tarot is a personal project of his that he’s extremely proud of and wants to share with the world.
“This project is not just a hobby or a little thing for me. It represents who I am, who a lot of us are, by showing the beauty of bringing lost, torn, and messy pieces of history together to make each card. It’s the connection to history and the energy that goes into it that makes this deck so special.” - Robyn Mallery
Mallery is calling his deck “semi-traditional”. Some of the cards in the Major Arcana are renamed to fit the theme better. "Strength" has been renamed "The Flood", "The Hermit" has been renamed "Isolation", and "The Magician" has been slightly altered to "The Magickian", among others. In the Minor Arcana, the four suits are of Cups, Oracle Bones, Lost Things, and Lost Memories. This is in contrast to the traditional suits of Cups, Swords, Wands, and Pentacles.
The final difference is that most decks are very visually similar. The colors and the drawing style are usually the same and often composed of simple, elegant line work and complete with beautiful foiling. Mixed Media Tarot cards, however, are a collage of any and everything that fits with the card's narrative. Mallery says the images are mostly taken from Nasa and Smithsonian's open access ( CC0 ) collections, though some personal artwork was also placed strategically in a few of the cards.
Each tarot deck has a purpose and is important for different reasons. This deck was designed to represent fractals and lost things. It's a deck specifically curated to encourage and support, as well as be assertive and push you out of your comfort zone. It is made to speak for the broken and the damaged. We are all fractals of ourselves, after all.
