New Paltz, New York Apr 23, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - New Paltz small business owner, Todd Wiedenkeller, President of WIEDENKELLER INSURANCE waived rent for his six business tenants for the duration of the pandemic.
He wants to give small businesses one less thing to worry about during these hard times. He asks that they focus on their families, their health and the community instead.
"My tenants are good, hard-working people. With their inability to work due to the Government's shut down, I knew the right thing was to take this financial burden off of their backs," Wiedenkeller said.
On March 30th he let his tenants know that due to COVID-19 affecting the community, he would waive rent on a month to month basis until restrictions are lifted.
Having operated as an insurance agency at 171 Main Street of New Paltz since 1988, he has grown to love and respect everyone in town.
Wiedenkeller knows he will take a bit of a financial loss, but isn't worried.
He said, "Don't worry about paying the rent. Worry about your loved ones and about staying on your feet."
He hopes to serve as an example for other Landlords in the community who are in the position to do the same.
"I'm hopeful that by May, we will see a turnaround. It is better that people have businesses to return to than suffer losses due to their forced inability to generate an income and pay the bills."
Bruce and Lindsay Stevens, of Stevens Realty, are one of his six tenants. Bruce said, "Todd would give you the shirt off of his back. He is that kind of guy."
Stevens Realty is still operating and doing virtual home showings. "We have been hustling from home but have been a bit limited with our inability to show houses due to social distancing. This rent break will help us all."
Right now Wiedenkeller is working hard to find the best insurance rates for clients who need to preserve finances as much as possible.
