The novel introduces 11-year-old Jodie, a young girl forced by circumstance to move from Biloxi, Mississippi, to the unfamiliar city of Terre Haute, Indiana. As she starts to settle in, Jodie decides to dedicate her life and future in service to God. While trying to fit in and lining up her goals, she soon gets caught up in a dilemma and experiences paralyzing emotions that make her feel powerless.
In the book, Klueh conveys the invaluable qualities of children even when faced with growing pains and trials. She hopes that through her work, people will regard them more, the same way as God treasures them.
“Saint Agnes' Garden,” inspired by Therese Martin’s book, “The Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of Saint Therese of Lisieux,” illuminates the plight of young women as they go through their tumultuous adolescent years. Through God’s guidance, soon they realize the destinies that have been laid out for them, have always been there for the taking.
