Mumbai, Maharashtra Jan 19, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - Nepa is India’s first emcee to receive the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Film foundation award in 2017. The professional speaker talks about her journey so far.
The event and entertainment industries have hundreds of aspirants vying for work and recognition each year. But there is one name that is quietly making herself known with her formidable skill sets. Nepa Rai Choudhary is well known in the entertainment fraternity for her captivating personality and stage expertise, “My first experience as an emcee was back in 2011, it was actually the very first time I had ever been on stage in my entire life. I was a science grad who fell in love with public speaking in a heartbeat. My career has been a classic example of going somewhere and reaching somewhere else” she laughs.
Over the last decade, Nepa has continued to add many feathers to her cap. From being the first choice for many illustrious brands like TATA, Kazo, Lodha, HUL, etc. to interviewing some of India’s biggest celebrities. “You have to understand the nature of the game. Hosting events and taking interviews are two very different aspects of public speaking with confidence being the most important commonality. When I host a show like The Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, my main job is to represent the brand to the best of my ability. For that one day, I am the face of that brand and I have to put forward my thoughts and words in a way that uplifts the brand image and makes the event unforgettable for my audience and on the other hand when I talk to the likes of Deepika Padukone, Taapsee Pannu, Karisma Kapoor, etc. I take a backseat as I let them shine. Celebrities are notorious for being tight-lipped during interviews, you have to make them comfortable by being friendly, asking intelligent questions, and not being intrusive.”
And what does she feel about receiving The Dada Saheb Phalke Film Foundation award, one of the biggest honours an entertainer can receive? “It still feels surreal honestly. It’s been an uphill battle from the very beginning. Many rejections, tears, and dismissals came before this incredible recognition. I would like to be pompous and accept it as my due.” she says with a soft smile.
With the outbreak of coronavirus impacting the entertainment industry severely, there was a need for drastic changes in everyone’s working style. Work was scarce initially, events were happening virtually and shoots were being conducted remotely. Nepa however, refused to slow down at a time when the world was still adapting to this new change. From hosting virtual shows to doing a music video to content writing and voiceovers, there was no topic left untouched, “Being a professional freelancer is a lot of hard work. There is no job security or monotony that comes with it. The pandemic was a perfect opportunity for me to branch out in different genres and improve my skill set. From talking in front of thousands of people to sitting in front of my laptop and engaging an audience that I couldn’t see, it’s exacting and there was a constant need to keep reinventing myself. It was time for me to revamp brand Nepa and offer a novel experience to my clientele.” She says.
So what’s in store for 2022? “A lot of things!” she adds with excitement, “I love the stage, I love the camera and I will continue to grow there but I also want to be creatively challenged now, writing has been my passion forever yet I have always treated it as a side business but now I have this growing urge to create content that people can watch and relate to.”
And steps have already been taken to achieve this goal. Nepa is busy writing a script for a web series as we speak, “It’s a very special project, I am not only scripting the screenplay but will also be doing the voice over, as of now I can’t talk much about it but I promise you, I am going to stir up a storm.” She declares with complete conviction.
