Nehal Rathod : The Artist Redefining Expression Through Silence, Simplicity, and Soul

The Journey of an Emerging Artist Redefining Indian Art — An Inspirational Story of Nehal, to Whom Art Comes Naturally and Soulfully

Mumbai, Maharashtra Apr 17, 2025 (Issuewire.com)  - In a culture where Indian art is often celebrated for its vibrancy and ornamentation, visual artist Nehal is taking a different path—one that leans into quiet, minimalism, and emotional depth. Through black ink on white paper, she creates meditative works that explore the unseen, the unspoken, and the deeply human.

Her journey as an artist began long before she ever held a brush. “I was a daydreaming child,” Nehal shares. “An avid reader, always lost in stories and silence. I loved the softness of unspoken emotions, the pause between words. I’ve always been drawn to the emotional landscape—stories of us as humans, our experiences, our influences on each other. Our togetherness, our solitude, our vulnerability, our resilience.”

Today, her artistic practice mirrors those early sensibilities. Nehal’s visual language is shaped by three meditative techniques—stippling, where she patiently builds forms dot by dot; line drawing, which she often uses to create intricate tree growth rings, symbolizing time, memory, and the invisible shaping of our inner worlds; and brushstrokes, which she uses to create Shodo (art of Japanese calligraphy) and abstract movements narrating stories. These repetitive, intuitive motions become more than technique—they are rituals of observation, breath, and quiet attention.

“I don’t see my work as something to be explained,” she says. “It’s a sensation. A rhythm. A moment of truth that happens between me and the paper—and hopefully between the viewer and something inside themselves.”

Her art doesn’t seek to impress—it seeks to connect. Each mark is intentional, emerging from deep listening rather than planning. “My process is about surrendering to the unknown,” Nehal reflects. “When I create, I let the lines and dots lead me. It’s not about control—it’s about presence. I trust what comes through.”

With each piece, Nehal is offering a kind of quiet resistance. Against the speed of modern life. Against the pressure to explain. Against the idea that more is always better. Her work invites you to pause, to breathe, and to remember something essential about being human.

Nehal is all set to exhibit her work in an upcoming exhibition of The Haat Of Art at World Trade Center, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai, on 18-19-20 April, 2025

Nehal invites you to witness her meditative artworks at The Haat Of Art this April. Come say hello and experience Nehal’s art in person. Each piece has a story, and she’d love to share that quiet space with you at the exhibition.
